Welcome to our webpage!
It is our hope that you get a glimpse of everyday life at Belen in the Garrido Tower Chapel, classrooms, labs, art studios, Roca Theater, Goizueta Gym, music halls and athletic fields.
Belen’s main goal is to educate in the Ignatian tradition young men who are entrusted to us by their parents. To this goal all our efforts and resources are directed.
The educational Ignatian tradition follows the spiritual heritage of St. Ignatius Loyola, who wrote the Spiritual Exercises and founded the Jesuit Order in 1540. The goals of the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm are to instill creativity, faith in service, love of God, the promotion of justice and building communities. This is done through the analysis of experience, reflection, action and evaluation. A personalized style of instruction is summarized by the Latin words “cura personalis” or individual caring for each one of our students, so that they may become “men for others and with others.”
The word “magis” is found in the text of the Spiritual Exercises and invites us to work hard and do everything to the best of our ability, for the “greater glory of God”.
Our school is rich in tradition. Founded in Havana, Cuba, in 1854 and relocated in Miami, Florida in 1961, Belen is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in South Florida in 2011. Belen Jesuit Prep is today a modern school with a diverse student population, state-of-the-art facilities and open to innovation and change.
Our alumni are our pride and joy. The Alumni Association reaches out to many generations of Jesuit alumni, not only from Belen, but also from all the Jesuit schools that once thrived in in the cities of Cienfuegos, Sagua, Santiago and Havana, Cuba.
If you are in the Miami area, please stop by. We will be happy to welcome you and will make every effort for you to feel that you have come home.
Wishing you the Lord’s blessings,
Pedro A. Suarez, S.J., Ph.D.' 58
