Thursday, 9.9.10

  • College Counseling - Juniors and Seniors: just a reminder that the University of Virginia will be visiting Belen today. We also have college rep visits almost every day beginning tomorrow. Don't forget you need to sign up a day in advance and you need to obtain a pass from your teacher.

  • Community Service - St. Louis Parish needs volunteers for CCD. If you can serve in this capacity, please stop by the Campus Ministry Office.

  • Silver Knight - Any high school student, specially SENIORS, interested in the Silver Knight Awards program are invited to attend a meeting on Thursday, September 9 at 3:15 pm in the Cafeteria. Seniors planning to apply this year MUST attend this meeting to obtain their application and information material. See Mrs. Fenton if you have any questions.

  • Italian Club - There will be a meeting of the Italian Club in Room H-212, on Thursday at 3:00 pm, for any one wishing to join. For any additional questions, please see Mr. Nicosia.

  • Respect Life - Students interested in Respect Life, there will be a preliminary Respect Life Meeting on Tuesday, September 14 at 3:10 in Room D116. This meeting is for both Middle School and High School students.

  • Red Ribbon Week - Red Ribbon Week is OCtober 23 to Orcober 31 enter the poster competition by creating a poster against drug use . Posters are due October 10 for more information see Mr. Vega.

  • Ham Radio Club - The Ham Radio Club will be meeting today in the Observatory at 3:10 PM. Returning members and all interested, please attend. If you have any questions, please see Fr. Cartaya.

  • Fencing Club - Only 7 more spots are left (first-come, come-serve) for this semester practices. If you have not turned in your application form, you need to do it as soon as possible so that you may be considered.

  • Sports Fundraiser - Doral-Lincoln-Mercury is hosting a fundraising event for Belen on Saturday, September 11 from 10:00am to 6:00pm. This event will provide much-needed funds towards our Sports Programs. Come out and support the school’s Sports Programs by providing test drivers who are 18 years of age or older to test drive Lincoln cars. You can invite family and friends to join us. Belen will be awarded $20 for each test drive for a total potential of $6,000. So please let’s get behind this event and join us for doughnuts and smoothies in the morning and pizza in the afternoon.   • SPORTS

    • Basketball - Attention students who are interested in trying out for the varsity basketball team, there will be a short meeting today, September 9 at 3:05 pm in room G-201

    • Football - Congratulations to the Jr. Varsity Football team on their 28 to 0 victory over Archbishop McCarthy. Daniel Neptune scored two touchdowns, Alex Alvarez scored 1 and James Garcia scored the other Belen touchdown. The defense played outstanding.

    • Tickets to tomorrow’s Varsity Football game against Columbus can be purchased in the Bookstore. Student tickets are sold out. We still have a limited supply of adult tickets at $15.00. Tickets purchased at the game will cost $20.00.

    • Golf - The varsity golf team is scheduled to play La Salle at Biltmore.

  

 WEdnesday, 9.8.10

  • 8th Grade Students - All 8th grade students who would like to volunteer for this year’s Ambassador Program, please sign up outside of Ms Gutierrez’s office in B-112 by this Friday.

  • Community Service - Please remember that the deadline for summer service hours is September 24.

  • Italian Club - There will be a meeting of the Italian Club in Room H-212, on Thursday at 3:00 pm, for any one wishing to join. For any additional questions, please see Mr. Nicosia.

  • Senior Beta Club - URGENT! Please report to Mrs. Alonso in H-221 or Mrs. Villafañe in V-102 after announcements regarding tutoring at Lil’ Abner today!

  • Mu Alpha Theta - There will be a Mu Alpha Theta meeting this Thursday, September 9th, in the Cosculluela dining room. All member from last year and students who receive an invitation letter today must attend. Be prompt

  • FDA - Interested students may turn in their application and dues to Mrs. Lara during homeroom in room S-117. Applications will be taken until Friday.

SPORTS

  • Football - Congratulations to Belen’s Middle School football team which defeated Ransom 27 to 6 yesterday at Ransom. Nick Peterson threw 3 touchdown passes, 2 to Brandon Silvestry and 1 to Frank Battle. Brandon Silvestry also scored on a long touchdown run. The defense held Ransom to negative offensive yards. The next game is away at University School next Tuesday.

  • The Jr. Varsity Football team is scheduled to host Archbishop McCarthy at 4:00 PM.

  • Student tickets to the Belen vs. Columbus game this Friday night are nearly sold out. Adult tickets will be sold until tomorrow afternoon. After that all of the tickets will be sold on game day for $20.00

  • Basketball - Attention students who are interested in trying out for the varsity basketball team, there will be a short meeting this Thursday, September 9 at 3:05 pm in room G-201.

  • Golf - The Varsity Golf team plays Gulliver and Palmetto at Biltmore and the JV Golf Team plays Westminster Christian at Granada.

  • Volleyball - There will be Volleyball practice today from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

 

Tuesday, 9.7.10

  • National Junior Honor Society - The National Junior Honor Society will have a meeting this afternoon for all Grade 9 members. This meeting will take place from 3:10 to 4PM in the Cosculluela Dining Hall.

  • Senior Pages - Senior pages are now on sale. Purchase your page early to secure the best section in the yearbook. For a contract see an Echoes representative or Mrs. Collins in Room C-206

  • Yearbooks - Yearbooks will be distributed this week in the art gallery next to the Roca Theater during the homeroom period. If you have not received your copy, please go to the gallery during your homeroom period any day this week. You must have your id to receive your yearbook.

  • FDA - The first Future Doctors of America meeting is today after school in Room S-205.

  • Music Appreciation Society - The Music Appreciation Society holds its first jam session of the year today at 3:10PM at the Ignatian Center. New members are welcome. If you do not bring your own instrument, you will not be allowed to play.

  • International Thespian Society - The International Thespian Society will meet today at 3:00 PM in Room I-108. New members in grades 9 through 12 with an interest in theatre are welcome. We will be reading the one-act cutting of All the Great Books.

  • Belen Cangrejos - The Belen Cangrejos will hold its first meeting on September 10th in Room G-205. All interested people are welcome!

  • Athletes for Charity - There will be an “Athletes for Charity” meeting tomorrow afterschool in Room F-202.

  • Chess Club - There will be a Chess Club meeting in the patio area behind the cafeteria from 3 to 4PM.

  • Fishing Club - Any student who is interested in joining the Fishing Club must turn in their forms by this Friday, September 10th. If you would like more information about the Fishing Club please see Mr. Ballesteros in the library.

  • SPORTS TODAY
    • Football - The varsity football team opened up their regular season with a victory over Hollywood Hills by the score of 41 to 0. Javier Rodriguez scored touchdowns of 33 yard run and another one on a 57 yard pass from Danny Admire. Miguel Maseda scored 2 running touchdowns of 1 yard and a 60 yard burst. Manny Sicre scored on a 17 yard pass from Admire and Julio Ayala scored on a 4 yard run late in the game. Belen plays Columbus at FIU this Friday night. Tickets can be purchased in the bookstore. Student tickets are $5.00 and adult tickets are $15.00. The Jr. high football team opens up their season today with a game at Ransom. Game time is 4:00 PM.

    • Cross Country - The 6th Grade Cross Country team finished in 5th place at the Belen Invitational. The top five runners for Belen were Justin Hernandez, Jordan Galves, Michael Moreno, Christian Wench and Brandon Torricella. The Middle School Cross Country team came in 2nd Place at the Belen Invitational. The lone top ten finisher was Antonio Montadas, he came in 9th place. The other top five runners were Matthew Mullin-Garcia, Nicolas Roca, Bruno Zayas and Tyler Roberts. The Next race for the Wolverines will be at Holy Rosary on Friday.

    • Soccer - 6th. grade, Jr. varsity and varsity soccer conditioning is scheduled for today at 3:15 PM. Meet by the stadium.

    • Wrestling - There will be wrestling conditioning today starting at 3:15 PM. It is open to grades 6 to 12. Meet in the wrestling room.

    • Lacrosse - All Belen Lacrosse players please meet in the Vincam area by the cafeteria immediately after school today for a mandatory meeting with Coach John Okunsk.
