ASTRONOMY CLUB

The Astronomy Club has its roots in the Astronomy and Meteorology Department of the Belen School in Havana, Cuba and the Jesuit tradition of scientific studies.

Moderator: Fr. Pedro Cartaya, S.J.

Some of the research topics the club has focused on are sunspots, planets, galaxies and nebulas. Members have photographed some of their observations in color. Members and guest speakers present their work in many of the meetings.

Optional field trips have been to various observatories in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and Kitt Peak in Arizona. The club has visited NASA facilities on many occasions and even conducted an experiment in our observatory on the shuttle Discovery in 1998.
