MUSIC APPRECIATION SOCIETY

The Music Appreciation Society provides a space where student musicians and serious music listeners can gather, listen to, and play music. You do NOT have to be a musician to join the club.

The club meets every Tuesday at 3 p.m., but two types of meetings occur on alternating weeks:

1. Listening meetings in room G201: Club members bring in different types of music to listen to and discuss. Any type of music may be brought in EXCEPT the extremely popular, corporate product that already pollutes our eardrums and airwaves. The club’s intention is to help students discover the many wondrous worlds of music from all cultures and time periods, as opposed to deadening students’ brains with still more mindless musical drivel.
2. Jam sessions at the Ignatian Center Music Room: Club members who are EXPERIENCED AND FLUENT at playing a musical instrument are invited to improvise and experiment in an open, jam session setting. Mr. Alexander reserves the right to determine who is, and who is not, qualified to participate in these sessions. If you want to play, you MUST bring your own instrument and gear. The exception is drummers, who must bring their own sticks, mallets, brushes, etc.
   The club strives to expand students’ musical consciousness through both playing and listening to music. The best of our jam session musicians also play at such school events as Tombola, Cafe Night, Field Day, etc.
