NATIONAL CHINESE HONOR SOCIETY

The National Chinese Honor Society (NCHS) was established in 1983 to recognize those accomplished high school students who study Chinese as a world language. The NCHS is a scholastic organization that promotes and recognizes students who demonstrate citizenship, leadership and community service. Its purpose is to encourage its members to become life-long learners, to gain a better understanding of the Chinese language and culture and to play an active role as a contributing global citizen in the twenty-first century. To qualify for membership, the student must meet the following criteria:

• Be a junior or senior
• Be enrolled in the fourth semester of Mandarin or higher
• A minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Earn a grade of 90% or higher in each semester of the candidate’s Mandarin class for 2 years
• No grade lower than a 1 in conduct and effort in the candidate’s Mandarin course
• Approval from the World Languages Department

To remain a member, a student must:

• Maintain a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Maintain a minimum grade of 90% in each semester of the candidate’s Mandarin course
• Maintain a grade of 1 in conduct and effort in the student’s Mandarin course for the year
• Attend NCHS meetings and NCHS sponsored activities
