#BNetworked: Zumpano Patricios

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
With over 7,000 alumni around the world and with a reinvigorated desire to showcase our alumni, Belen launched #BNetworked in December 2018.

“The goal is to highlight companies which are either alumni owned or have a group of alumni that work together. We aim to showcase how the bonds formed at Belen, regardless of  graduation year, unite alumni both in their professional and personal lives,” said Carlos Bravo ‘86, Alumni Association Executive Director.

The next company to be profiled is Zumpano Patricios. This law firm was founded in 2003 and both the Zumpano and Patricios families are Belen families. The firm’s President and Managing Shareholder is Joseph “Joey” I. Zumpano ‘87, whose family has generously given to Belen Jesuit over several decades.  Zumpano Patricios is a full service law firm with offices in Miami, Chicago, Salt Lake City, and with satellite office arrangements in various parts of the globe. The firm is best known for its high profile anti-terrorism cases and representation of hospital systems in managed care litigation matters. The law firm has multiple affiliates, including in the areas of real estate services, and real estate development.  The Zumpano Patricios Land Holding Companies hold significant real estate assets in Florida, Illinois, Utah and the Bahamas

Joey answered the following questions:

How many alumni work at the company? We have 6 alumni at the firm and its affiliates in various capacities, and there are many others that work alongside us to supply us with security, banking, information technology, insurance, products and services. The alumni who work at the firm and its affiliates are: Lou Lozada '86, David Garcia '87, Fernando Alvarez '87, Joe Zumpano '87, Jose Gonzalez '87, and Jose Lopez Varela, Jr. '15.

What are the advantages of working with fellow alumni? There is no greater advantage – I have the blessing to work with, and alongside, my brothers.

Do you have any job openings? Yes, we profile our candidates for that special combination of humility and perseverance, and then we hire them.  Our firm is best known for its high profile anti-terrorism cases, and managed care litigation on behalf of large hospital systems.  We, however, carefully consider applications from attorneys and legal assistants, in major areas of law.

Of what are you most proud? Our people.

Do you offer an alumni discount? Often, we will represent an alumnus or their family member, at no charge.  We have been blessed, and when we can, we help.

Are you an alumnus with a company and have your Belen brothers working with you? Do you work at a company with several alumni? If so, we want to hear from you! Email us a group photo and indicate the name of the company and those pictured from left to right including graduation year to alumni@belenjesuit.org.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
