BYM Drive Kicks Off

Mirna Menendez | BYM Coordinator
This summer, 65 Belen Jesuit students will travel to the Dominican Republic from June 28 - July 7 to build a bridge for the community of Vaca Gorda. The group will also establish a clinic and deliver necessary supplies.

The quote by St. Ignatius of Loyola, “Go forth and set the world on fire,” can best describe the group of individuals that has decided to use its summer vacation to accomplish an incredible feat. However, they can’t do it alone!

A key component to the mission trip is the supply drive. Beginning on Monday, March 18 and ending on Friday, April 12, students are asked to bring an item from the supply list to their Theology classes. Members of the Belen community who wish to contribute can drop off donations either in the main school lobby or the administration building lobby. Only items on the list are needed. No expired medicine will be accepted. Items can also be purchased via our Amazon Wish List: http://amzn.com/w/1R54984TVRURU.

Each BYM participant has also been tasked with raising a minimum of $875. If you would like to contribute towards the fundraising goals for one of the participants please visit http://belenyouthmission.org to make your donation.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
