Annual Gala Moves to New Location

Yvonne von der Osten| Director of Parent & Corporate Engagement
The 2019-2020 academic year is here. Kicking off the year will be the Annual Gala that will be held on Saturday, October 26. I am excited to announce that we have moved the location of the Gala to the Watsco Center at the University of Miami in order to accommodate more people.

The theme this year is “Glory,” to remind us that everything we do is Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, For the Greater Glory of God. This a wonderful opportunity to gather as a community and enjoy delicious food, dance to great live music, and, most importantly, help a great cause.  This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever and will sell out quickly. Be sure to purchase your seats by visiting,www.belenjesuit.org/gala.

For those who can’t attend the gala, please consider supporting this important signature event by participating in the
class pages, becoming a sponsor, purchasing an ad in the program book or donating to our auction.

As many of you already know, over 25% of Belen students need and receive financial assistance for tuition. The gala, as well as the Father Izquierdo Golf Tournament and the Fr. Dorta- Duque, SJ Memorial Tombola, are primary sources of income for the Belen Financial Assistance Program.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
