Belen Jesuit will host the 2020 & 2021 Florida High School Water Polo State Championships at the Gian Zumpano Aquatic Center. The 2020 event will take place on April 17 & 18, and the 2021 event will be April 16 & 17.

"We are excited to host the Water Polo Finals at Belen Jesuit in the new Gian Zumpano Aquatic Center”, said Principal José E. Roca. “We look forward to welcoming schools from all over the state and offering a fantastic experience to all those who attend this event.”

Belen Jesuit will be hosting the water polo finals for the first time in the event’s history. After being held at Boca Raton High School last year, the event will return back to familiar grounds in the city of Miami, where Ransom Everglades had previously hosted since 2012. This one classification event will see four semifinal matches (two per gender) take place on Friday, and two championship matches on Saturday.

“We are excited to bring this event to Belen Jesuit at their newly constructed aquatic facility,” FHSAA Executive Director George Tomyn said. “Belen Jesuit and their staff will be terrific partners in creating a memorable experience for the best water polo athletes in Florida.”

This is the first time Belen will host a state championship game.

Advance ticket information for the event will be available via GoFan, the exclusive digital ticketing provider for the FHSAA. Downloadable today for both Apple and Android, the free GoFan app features the ability to buy tickets to FHSAA State Series events as well as enter the venue through mobile scanning and redemption.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
