Major Gift Announcement: The Miguel B. Fernández Family Foundation

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Belen Jesuit is excited to announce that The Miguel B. Fernández Family Foundation has pledged $1.25 million dollars in order to advance the vision and direction of the school. This pledge is in addition to many past contributions that the foundation has made for scholarships and campus improvements.

A longtime supporter of Belen, Miguel B. Fernández is a product of a Jesuit education and his sons are proud alumni - Alex ‘00 and Michael ‘13. Mr. Fernández currently serves as Chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners, L.P., a private investment firm located in Coral Gables, Florida.
“We are very grateful, not only for the financial support that Mike and his family have given Belen Jesuit but also for his dedication to the Jesuit values and principles that were instilled in him as a student at Xavier High School in New York,” said Father Willie. “This pledge will go towards the cost accrued by the construction of the Dining Hall and towards the strategic efforts of the school to support our diversity initiatives.”

Mike and his wife Constance are generous philanthropists and support many local and national organizations. Their generosity has exceeded $100 million dollars in charitable contributions over the last 20 years.

“The Jesuit principles are the foundation of who I am today,” said Fernandez. “My parents taught me to ‘take care of those who come after you’ and I’ve taken that important lesson to heart. I was blessed to have a Jesuit education and be inspired by the Jesuit ideal of ‘living for others’. I’m proud that my sons are Belen alumni and value the work that Father Willie and the Jesuits are doing.”

Every gift received helps us in fulfilling the challenges set forth in the Strategic Plan (Strengthening our Catholic-Jesuit Identity, Academic Excellence, Forming Well-Rounded Men and Enhancing our Brotherhood) and we plan on announcing many more leadership level gifts in the coming months.

We continue to strive for greatness and need your help in achieving our goal. If you would like to contribute to the vision of the school, please contact Phil Fernandez ’94 at ffernandez@belenjesuit.org or call him at 305-804-7683.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
