Celebrating Entrepreneurship: DECA

Alejandro Dominguez ‘20
Entrepreneurs worldwide are actively innovating our lives in ways that are innumerable and profoundly embedded in our culture. To acknowledge and inspire the innate entrepreneurial spirits in our community, the Belen Jesuit DECA club has taken the initiative to direct Global Entrepreneurship Week in our school community.

“DECA is an international association of high school clubs dedicated to preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs,” said Andres Jimenez ‘87, the club moderator. “This is a competitive business club that instills a tradition of innovation and ambition in our community.”

During the week of November 18, the Belen community will join 10 million people across 170 countries to celebrate education, entrepreneurial ambition, innovation, and inclusion. This year's Belen Jesuit DECA officers, referred to as Team 1, have organized several engaging activities and guest speakers for Global Entrepreneurship Week which include:

-Guest Speakers: Jose Cil '87, CEO of Resturaunt Brands International Inc. and Dr. Susan Amat, CEO of Venture Hive

-Open DECA Meeting featuring FL DECA Vice President Franco Hinojosa

-Innov@te - CTEC Invitation

-Open DECA Idea Challenge

-Florida DECA District 10 Competition

Belen Jesuit DECA Team 1 is challenging the Belen community to Remove Barriers and Welcome All minds during Global Entrepreneurship Week to educate, collaborate, diversify, and support. To facilitate this challenge, members of Belen Jesuit DECA throughout the week will be competing, representing, interacting, and setting the standard of Belen's entrepreneurial spirit.

Team 1 is excited to introduce the annual celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week to the Belen community and is committed to its success alongside DECA.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
