School Reopening Plan 2020-21

Father Willie ‘87 | President & José E. Roca '84 | Principal
Throughout the summer, our school reopening committee worked together to develop a plan that addresses the safety, health, and well-being of our community. This plan reflects the input of our Belen family - our faculty, parents, and healthcare advisers. We are grateful to everyone that has given their time to assist with this endeavor.

We invite you to please read the School Reopening Plan. An email with instructions on completing a short survey selecting your preferred school scenario for this August. We will use the results to assist in our final decision.  One survey must be completed for each child attending Belen by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5. After that time, the survey will be closed.

It is our intention to make our final decision for the new semester shortly.  Please note that if the school chooses a full on-campus or hybrid return, a family has the option to keep their son(s) at home learning virtually. In addition, we have created a plan that easily allows us to pivot from one scenario to another based on the circumstances affecting our community at the time.

Although our daily way of proceeding may look different, Belen’s steadfast commitment to providing faith formation and education in the Catholic, Jesuit tradition remains unchanged. We are confident the collaborative, innovative, faithful and compassionate spirit of our whole Belen family will lead us to grow and thrive in this context of change. We cannot wait to welcome our boys back on campus and we look forward to a year of continued growth for us all.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
