The Belen Jesuit Administration announces that after a four-year term, Lucila E. Marazita-Espinosa, Ed.D. will conclude her tenure as Director of Admissions at the end of this academic year and will be returning full time to her first love, the classroom.

“I am grateful to Dr. Marazita-Espinosa for the enthusiasm and dedication she brought to the Admissions Office,” said Fr. Guillermo M. García-Tuñón, S.J. '87. “She led the admissions process through a number of changes and was instrumental in assuring our continued growth, despite the ongoing pandemic. I have no doubt she will continue to inspire young minds and help our academic team continue to excel.”

In 2016, when Fr. Willie took over as President of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, he began to work on the Strategic Plan that would provide the blueprint for the years to come. That plan was unveiled in 2017 and focused on four particular areas: Strengthening our Catholic-Jesuit Identity, Academic Excellence, Forming Well-Rounded Men, and Enhancing the Brotherhood. Since then, the administration has taken key steps in realizing the objectives set forth in each area.

With this in mind, the Administration is excited to announce the return of Tommy de Quesada, Ed.D. ‘94 to Belen Jesuit in a new and challenging role. Beginning July 1, 2021, Dr. de Quesada will be the Executive Director of Enrollment and Community Outreach.

This position was designed to assist the President in meeting administrative responsibilities and providing leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of the student admissions process. This new role will also focus on identifying top faculty and staff candidates that will enrich and strengthen the learning environment of the school.

“One of the first people that comes to mind when I think of the magis is Dr. de Quesada,” said Fr. Willie. “This new role is pivotal to the growth and success of Belen Jesuit as we move forward with a steadfast commitment to academic excellence and the formation of men that will become leaders in society. Because of his expertise and experience, I am convinced he is the right person to take on this new challenge.”

Since 2018, Dr. de Quesada has served the Jesuit school community of Fairfield College Preparatory School in Connecticut as Principal. He rejoins the Belen Jesuit administration after previously having worked at the school for 21 years in various capacities.

We are grateful for the continued support of our Belen faculty, staff, alumni, and families as we strive for excellence in all that we do for the greater glory of God.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
