Tombola Challenge Wraps-Up

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Sparked by a desire to garner support for the Annual Fund for Belen and to grow participation among the classes, the Alumni Association and Advancement offices created the Tombola Challenge. This year’s campaign kicked off on December 2, 2020, and came to a close on December 31 at 11:59 p.m.

“We know that our alumni are all in and bleed blue and gold,” said Director of Giving Jorge Pérez-Alvarez ‘76. “But, given that we are in the midst of a pandemic, our expectations were tempered. I’m happy to report that, not only did our alumni participate in droves, they also gave generously.”

The friendly gift-giving competition received nearly 400 more gifts and reached a participation percentage of 61 overall amongst alumni. The winners by category are:

Winning class delegates will be contacted with more information. Bragging rights go out to our two-time total giving winner….Class of 1991. Special shout out to the Class of 1969 who topped the leaderboard in terms of participation and to the Classes of 1986 and 1987 that both exceeded 80%

“We are grateful to everyone who took part in this alumni challenge,” said Director of Advancement Phil Fernández ‘94. “Ultimately, it’s all about our school and the love we have for it. All gifts to the Annual Fund for Belen go immediately to the school’s most pressing needs and benefit our Alumni since it offers direct operational support to the Alumni Association as well.”

Alumni are encouraged to continue to support Belen by clicking here. In addition to providing resources for academic, technology, faculty recruitment, and retention, all gifts support the continuous operation of the Alumni Association, BConnected (belenalumni.org), and all other Alumni related activities.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
