Belen Jesuit Wrestlers Manny Domínguez ‘22 and Lucas Amaya ‘23 are advancing to the state championship. Our Wolverines will compete on March 5 & 6 at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee. Manny will compete in the 138 lbs weight class and Lucas in the 145 lbs. division.

“Manny is a wonderful athlete with great technique,” said Coach Omar Iglesias. “No matter the situation he always powers through and wrestles with great tact. As a first-year wrestler, it’s a tremendous accomplishment to have made it to the state finals. I’m very proud of him.”

“Lucas, in his third year of wrestling, has lots of talent and great possibilities to continue to do well in the sport,” said Coach Iglesias. “He understands the importance of achieving a great technique and works incredibly hard. He has a wonderful future ahead.”

In 2015, Julián Rodríguez was the last Wolverine to win an individual state championship in wrestling.

“We are proud of these two young wrestlers,” said Athletic Director Carlos Barquín. “They have accomplished a big feat already and I wish them well, Go get them!”

“It would be so cool to bring home another individual state championship win and hopefully bring momentum to win more in the next years,” said Lucas. “Coach Iglesias is doing an excellent job preparing us for our matches by teaching us many important techniques. I am very happy to have an experienced Coach like him to help me prepare and I’m very excited to have this opportunity.”

“I am very happy to be advancing to States,” said Manny. “Being able to represent Belen on the mat gives me a great feeling of pride. I have nothing but admiration and respect for our coach. We trained hard with grueling practices with the entire team and he has always shown me encouragement.”

The State Finals will be streamed live by the FHSAA, click here to watch.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
