Get Ready for Tombola 2022

Fr. Willie ‘87 | President
I’m excited to announce that the annual Fr. Dorta- Duque, SJ Memorial Tombola will be held from Friday, February 4, to Sunday, February 6. There is no greater event at Belen Jesuit to bring everyone together than Tombola and, after the last couple of years, we can all use the opportunity to interact and celebrate the Belen spirit in person.

We don’t have too much time from now until Tombola weekend so I need everyone to come together to help ensure that we have the most successful event ever! I hope you’re as excited as I am to once again be back on campus for this year’s Tombola. As great as our online-based Tombola challenge was in 2021, nothing compares to the real deal!

Que siga la tradición (Let the tradition continue) is the theme. I guarantee this weekend is like no other. Simply put, Tombola is unique and it is our iconic tradition.

At the heart of Tombola is knowing the weekend is one big push to raise the much-needed funds for the school’s financial assistance program. With 16% of the student body receiving financial assistance and over $1.5 million dollars distributed, how can one choose not to pitch in? Just think, your son’s best friend, teammate, student council class president, or peer minister may not be here if not for that help. Or, maybe it’s your own son.

The fact is we are in this together and we need your help. The beauty of Tombola is the active, hands-on, participation of parents, teachers, students, and alumni.

Later this week, an email will be sent to parents with the sign-up sheets for the booths. The goal is to reach 100% parent participation. In honor of our 60th anniversary in Miami, Ocean Mazda has generously donated a new Mazda 3 which will be used as the grand prize! Additionally, the raffle has three other prizes. Raffle tickets will be distributed this week via the FLEX classes. Alumni, please consider supporting us in this initiative. Raffle tickets can be purchased online at www.belenjesuit.org/tombolaraffle.

In the meantime, we’ve updated the Tombola webpage, www.belenjesuit.org/tombola, so be sure and check it out for detailed information. Tombola sponsorships are also a great way to help. Please click here to learn more. Tickets are on-sale for the Culinary Extravaganza, Wine Tasting, Arroz con Cosas, and much more.

I look forward to seeing you the weekend of February 4-6.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
