Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School is proud to announce that alumnus and founder and Executive Chairman of Codina Partners, LLC, Armando Codina ‘65 will be the speaker at the commencement exercises for the class of 2022. The ceremony will take place at the James L. Knight Center on Friday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on the school’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/BelenJesuit.

“We are deeply honored that Armando accepted our invitation to be part of this important milestone in the life of these young men,” said Fr. Guillermo García-Tuñón, ‘87, President of Belen Jesuit. “He is a wonderful example of a Jesuit educated man who is living the magis every day of his life. He, along with his wife Margarita, give generously to various causes - including Belen - and I am sure he will leave a profound and lasting message to the class of 2022 and to the whole Belen community.”

Though he is a member of the class of 1965, Codina didn’t graduate from Belen. Instead, his time at Havana’s ‘palacio de la educación’ was cut short by Fidel Castro’s communist takeover of Cuba.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
