Welcome Back Message

José E. Roca '84 | Principal
I wish to extend a warm welcome to those of you who are new to our Belen Family and an enthusiastic welcome back to our returning families from what, I hope, was a restful and revitalizing summer. I am very excited for the 2022-2023 school year as it promises to bring abundant opportunities to grow in our faith, knowledge, and unity.  The administration, faculty, and staff have been preparing diligently for the start of this school year and are anxious to get to know each of you, more personally, through the many activities we have planned throughout the year.

Last year we successfully completed our reaccreditation process through Cognia. The visiting accreditation team evaluated our school in the areas of Catholic identity, academic prowess, and administrative capabilities, and I am happy to report that they were impressed with our performance across all facets of the domains assessed. I am most proud, however, that the accreditation committee resoundingly described Belen as having a family atmosphere, which was palpable everywhere within our school community.  I am gratified that our Belen Family, consisting of members from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and races, so clearly reflected our singular mission - to always strive to achieve more, the MAGIS, for the Greater Glory of God.

This new academic year once again challenges us to fulfill our purpose by seeking God in all people, in all situations, and in all things we will face on a daily basis. Our administration, faculty, coaches, and staff are called to assist our families in this mission by educating and caring for the “whole” student  - physically, intellectually, and spiritually.  We look forward to continued success in our classrooms, in our athletic fields, on our stages, and in our many clubs and extracurricular activities. Our new Campus Ministry Team is especially eager to facilitate experiences for our students this year, which will deepen their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I pray that God will continue to bless our Belen Family this school year with a spirit of love and service for one another and with a renewed commitment to our faith and the desire to share it with all those around us.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
