Special Tombola Announcement

Gigi Garcia-Chang | Community Events Director
We are excited to announce that planning is well underway for the annual Fr. Dorta- Duque, S.J. Memorial Tombola. For over 150 years, this event has aimed to bring together families, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the neighborhood for a fun-filled festival with great rides, food, entertainment, and more! The success of Tombola has been building in recent years. For this reason, we are making adjustments to ensure a bigger and better experience:

  • The 2023 Tombola is dedicated in loving memory of our brother Anthony Parodi ‘23. In his honor, his favorite color, orange, will be on display throughout Tombola.
  • Tombola celebrations will now be weeklong and begin on January 28, culminating with the festival weekend, February 3-5!
  • In response to the popularity of The Culinary Extravaganza, we are expanding the scope of the event to not only include more restaurants, but also increase the number of tickets by making it a stand-alone event. The Culinary Extravaganza will kick-off Tombola week on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
  • We are looking for restaurants that would like to participate in The Culinary Extravaganza event. Please refer all inquiries to Mrs. Rebeca Lowell at rlowell@belenjesuit.org
  • Raffle tickets will be distributed upon our return from the Christmas break. Special thanks to our partner, Ocean Mazda, who has once again agreed to donate a car. This year’s grand prize will be a new Mazda CX-50.
  • More special events are in the works and will be announced in the coming weeks.
We are looking forward to an amazing Tombola week and are counting on all of you to help us make it the most successful one ever. Last year we surpassed the one million dollar mark. We know that with the Belen community engaged in the festivities, we can do it again. Net proceeds from Tombola help fund the Belen Financial Assistance Program, which helps to make a Catholic-Jesuit education possible for families who need support.

As we finalize plans, details will be posted on our website. Should you have any Tombola related questions, please feel free to email them to tombola@belenjesuit.org

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
