Pardon Our Dust, Construction Update

Phil Fernandez | Executive Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations
Kitchen and Dining Hall Project
This summer the Kitchen renovation project came to a conclusion giving way for the dining hall renovation and expansion to begin.
The new dining hall will double the size of the old space and provide us with the single largest assembly space on campus. The beautiful design by Ernesto Santos will provide Belen with a dining hall we can all be proud of.
In order to ensure that the new space fully meets the need of our school a complete overhaul of the design was completed which required an extended permitting process.  Now that we have gotten past those obstacles our contractor has given us a new timeline and as such we are estimating the date of completion to be June 2017.
While this is later than we had anticipated we are still pleased that the project will be completed in time for the next academic year. We appreciate everyone’s continued support and patience as we take great strides in improving our campus.

Our new pool is taking shape!  We can already start to imagine our swimming and water polo teams using the space for practice and competition.  This school year will mark the last year for our current pool which has served us very well for over 30 years.  We are sure to enjoy many nostalgic moments in the coming months while looking forward to our new state of the art facility so beautifully designed by Johnny Medina '77.  Speaking of the new facility, some key milestones have been achieved thus far.
  • Excavation completed
  • Main drain plumbing installed
  • De-watering completed
  • Waterproofing installed
  • Concrete Footing and Pool Slab Completed

Next up is the retaining wall and north elevation.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
