Pardon our Dust: Campus Improvements Update

Ricardo Echeverria '84| Director of Plant Operations
It’s hard to believe that the academic year is coming to an end.
We’ve seen many changes around campus throughout the course of this school year, including: updates to the branding in the Roberto Goizueta Athletic Center, the remodeling of the Chapel of Our Lady and St. Joseph’s Patio, installation of new Hybri-Flex epoxy coating on the floors, and the technology in the Cosculluella Hall and Roca Theater were enhanced.

Our two biggest projects, The Gian Zumpano Aquatic Center and Dining Hall continue to make great strides at a steady and consistent speed. Construction crews are working tirelessly to meet our deadlines.

Progress in the Aquatic Center includes:
  • Cast-in place concrete walls were completed on the north section for the locker rooms and equipment storage room buildings.
  • Pumps and heaters were delivered.
  • Layout for swimming and water polo were completed.
  • Foundation for bleachers were completed.
  • New gutter system was ordered along with the starting blocks for swimming.
  • Interior finishes inside locker rooms has commenced.
Progress in the Dining Hall includes:
  • All interior walls and soffits have been framed and completed.
  • All air conditioning units have been installed.
  • Exposed metal air conditioning ducts have been installed.
  • All rough electrical and plumbing have been installed.
  • Tile work in serving area has commenced.
  • New fire sprinkler lines have been installed.
  • Exterior stucco has been completed.
These projects wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t for the generosity of many people. We continue to strive for greatness and need your help in achieving our goal. Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
