Welcome Back

Jose E. Roca '84 | Principal
I would like to warmly welcome all of our new students to Belen and welcome back all of our returning students after what, I hope, was an exciting and restful summer vacation. The 2018-2019 academic year promises to be a fantastic one. The administration, faculty, and staff have been diligently preparing for the start of the school year. Our new personnel, including our Dean of Men, will bring a fresh perspective to Belen, based on the years of experience they have gained in the educational field. Our returning faculty and staff will continue to make you feel at home, while also challenging you to work beyond your comfort zones and encouraging you to learn and grow.

The core values of our school; Cura Personalis, Magis, and Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, as always, will continue to guide all of our efforts. This means that we are committed to the development of the whole person – body, mind and soul. We are committed to demanding that each student, not only do more, but do their very best, in all things. Lastly, we are committed to our mission of doing everything for the greater glory of God.

The new academic year also brings us the opportunity to improve on our previous year’s accomplishments across all areas - from academics to athletics to service. Academically, our faculty and staff will help our students continue our upward trend in standardized scores and AP results. Athletically, our coaches will expect excellence in practices, which will result in more victories and amazing performances during games and matches. Most importantly, changes in our Campus Ministry and Service Office will facilitate an increase in the faith formation of our students and continue to promote a desire for service for and with others.

I pray that God blesses our students, faculty, staff, and administration at Belen and that the school year be filled with grace for our entire community. Additionally, I pray that we can continue to grow as a strong family united in service and love toward one another.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
