    (MIAMI, FL) – Gian Zumpano lived a remarkable life. Salutatorian of the Belen Jesuit class of 1986, his greatest achievement was his kindness towards others and his service for the poor. His life exemplified the school’s motto Men for Others. Years in the making, the Gian Zumpano Aquatic Center honors the beloved alumnus who fought gran mal epilepsy, yet passed away during his sleep at age 22. The cutting edge Olympic sized swimming complex at Belen Jesuit will be blessed and inaugurated on Wednesday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m.

    The Jesuit community of Miami invites the public to a bilingual (English/Spanish) Mass on Sunday, July 31, in honor of the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola at the Ignatian Spirituality Center (Casa Manresa) at 6 p.m.

    “This is a special occasion to thank the Lord for the gift of Ignatian spirituality and for over 115 years of a Jesuit presence in Miami,” said Jesuit Father Guillermo M. García-Tuñón, President of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School.

    The Ignatian Spirituality Center (Casa Manresa) is located at 12190 SW 56th Street in Miami, 33175.

    The main celebrant will be Jesuit Father García-Tuñón and will be concelebrated by other Miami Jesuits.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
