US House of Representative Florida District 25 Debate

Belen Jesuit is proud to host the U.S. House of Representatives Florida District 26 Debate featuring alumni Carlos Curbelo (R) and Joe Garcia (D) along with the moderator, Emmy Award-winning ABC News anchor and correspondent, Tom Llamas in the Roca Theater on Thursday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m.
 
“We are honored to welcome home these distinguished alumni. Their service to the community and state make us very proud. It is for us a blessing to have them demonstrate for our students the world of politics in action in the form of a live debate. Their participation in this event will be a great teaching moment,” said school President Jesuit Father Guillermo M. García-Tuñón. “We look forward to being part of a spirited debate on issues that are important for our community.”
 
The presentation will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. with an introduction by Belen Jesuit President Father García-Tuñón. The moderator, Mr. Llamas, will then explain the format and time restrictions to each candidate, as well as address the audience. Each candidate will have the opportunity to make a closing statement. Due to space limitations this is a ticketed event and open only to those that have received tickets.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
