Boy Scouts Troop 43

Moderator: Jose Andion '00

Boy Scouts Troop 43 was chartered by Belen Jesuit School in 1966 under the direction of Fr. Espada, our first Scoutmaster. Fr. Espada's insight recognized the opportunities Scouting provided young men with challenging adventures.

The Troop is run by the Scouts, under the direction of the Scoutmaster and supported by the parent's committee. Parental involvement is encouraged since it provides opportunities for adults to share their different areas of expertise with the boys outside of a classroom setting and helps the boys develop a diverse understanding of different careers and leadership styles. Moreover, the Troop and Crew are open to friends and family of Belen students and teachers.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
