French National Honor Society

The Belen Jesuit chapter of La Société Honoraire de Français recognizes outstanding scholarship and committed study of the French language and culture. For more information, please email malonso@belenjesuit.org.
To qualify for membership, the student must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a sophomore, junior, or senior
  • Be enrolled in the fourth semester of French or higher
  • A minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Earn a grade of 90% or higher in each semester of the candidate’s French coursework for two years 
  • No grade lower than a 1 in conduct and effort in the candidate’s French courses
  • Approval from the World Languages Department

To remain a member, a student must:
  • Maintain a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Maintain a minimum grade of 90% in each semester of the candidate’s French course
  • Maintain a grade of 1 in conduct and effort in the student’s French course for the year
  • Attend French National Honor Society meetings and NFHS sponsored activities, including the Smithsonian Virtual Classroom Project and French Week

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
