Close Up Programs

Close Up is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that brings students face-to-face with American democracy in Washington, D.C. Since 1975, Belen Jesuit juniors and seniors have had the opportunity to take part in this unforgettable, week-long program. It's more than a tour—it's a hands-on civic learning experience. Our 8th graders also get a taste of D.C. through Close Up’s Founding of a Nation program, which Belen joined in 2016. This fast-paced trip brings history and government to life in a fun and interactive way.
Belen Jesuit 8th graders will be able to participate in Close Up’s middle school educational program, Founding of a Nation (FOAN), scheduled for November 18-22, 2025. Information was sent to parents at the end of the 2024-2025 school year with the criteria needed to attend. Additional information will be sent at the start of the new school year.

Close Up 2026 will take place March 15-20. Information will be sent to students and parents in the first semester.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
