Admission Process

Belen Jesuit is a school deeply rooted in Ignatian tradition and pedagogy. These traits are what set us apart from other schools and what makes Belen Jesuit an extraordinary college preparatory school.
 
Admission to Belen Jesuit is selective and limited to grades 6 and 9.  All applicants must complete an online application for admissions, must sit for the Belen Jesuit entrance exam for early decision or submit SSAT scores for regular decision.  Families who are interested in learning more about our school and the admissions process are invited to attend our Open House. Private and group tours are also available by appointment.

ADMISSIONS POLICY

Belen Jesuit admits students without regard to race, religion, color, national or ethnic origin. As a Catholic college preparatory­­­ school in the Jesuit tradition, Belen Jesuit actively seeks a student body that represents a broad and diverse variety of abilities, talents, backgrounds, and interests.

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA

Admission is based  upon the following criteria:
  • Entrance examination score (early decision) or SSAT scores (regular decision)
  • Current school record
  • Latest standardized test scores
  • Interview in certain instances

How to Apply

EARLY DECISION (Grade 6 only)
Prospective families who know that Belen Jesuit Preparatory School is the school of choice for their son’s education are highly encouraged to apply for Early Admission.
 
  • Apply online for the November 2, 2019 entrance exam.
  • Complete application along with all required documentation is due October 28, 2019.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 includes the cost of testing & lunch.
  • Notifications will be posted in the My Belen portal on January 10, 2020. 
Since Early Decision at BJPS is binding, if a candidate is admitted and enrolled, families agree to withdraw applications at all other learning institutions. In addition, families will be required to sign an enrollment contract and submit a $2,500.00 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit prior to January 24, 2020, which will be credited towards tuition and fees.
 
Approximately 85% of students are selected from the Early Admission applicant pool.
 
REGULAR DECISION (Grade 6 only)
Prospective families who are considering Belen Jesuit Preparatory School as one of the choices for their son’s education are eligible to apply through the Regular Admission process.

  • Apply online, submit SSAT scores, and all required documentation by January 17, 2020.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $75.00 will be assessed at the time of the application.
  • Notifications will be posted in the My Belen portal on March 1, 2020.
 
Families of admitted students will be required to sign an enrollment contract and submit a $2,500.00 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit prior to March 8, 2020, which will be credited towards tuition and fees.
 
THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS FOR THE PROSPECTIVE NINTH GRADER
Prospective ninth grade candidates seeking admission to Belen Jesuit Preparatory School must:
  • Apply online for the December 14, 2019 entrance exam.
  • Complete application along with all required documentation is due December 2, 2019.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $100.00 includes the cost of testing & lunch.
  • Notifications will be posted in the My Belen portal on January 24, 2020. 
 
Families of admitted ninth-grade students will be required to sign an enrollment contract and submit a $2,500.00 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit prior to January 31, 2020, which will be credited towards tuition and fees.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT APPLICATION

This school is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. Click here for more information on SEVIS. International students should contact the Admissions office in order to receive an international students application.

BELEN JESUIT ENTRANCE EXAM

On the day of the exam, prospective students are asked to be in the Roberto C. Goizueta Athletic Center by 7:30 a.m. The exam begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and ends at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The entrance exam tests reading comprehension, language art skills, and mathematics. Students may take the exam once. There are no makeup dates. 
 
  • Saturday, November 2, 2019 - ENTRANCE EXAM (Grade 6 Early Decision only)
  • Saturday, December 14, 2019 - ENTRANCE EXAM (Grade 9)
Registration opens on September 9, 2019.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
