Admission Process

Belen Jesuit is a school deeply rooted in Ignatian tradition and pedagogy. These traits are what set us apart from other schools and what makes Belen Jesuit an extraordinary college preparatory school.
Admission to Belen Jesuit is selective and limited to grades 6 and 9.  All applicants must complete an online application for admissions and sit for the Belen Jesuit entrance exam.  Families who are interested in learning more about our school and the admissions process are invited to attend either our Open House or one of our evening admissions informational sessions. Private and group tours are also available by appointment.


Belen Jesuit admits students without regard to race, religion, color, national or ethnic origin. As a Catholic college preparatory­­­ school in the Jesuit tradition, Belen Jesuit actively seeks a student body that represents a broad and diverse variety of abilities, talents, backgrounds, and interests.


Admission is based  upon the following criteria:
  • Entrance examination score
  • Current school record
  • Latest standardized test scores
  • Interview in certain instances

How to Apply

The application process begins September 9, 2019. Pre-registration for the exam is required and all applications are due by the Monday prior to the date of the exam at 11:59 p.m. The non-refundable application fee of $100.00 includes the cost of testing and lunch. For additional information or questions regarding the admissions process contact the admissions office.


On the day of the exam, prospective students are asked to be in school by 7:30 a.m. The exam begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and ends at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The entrance exam tests reading comprehension, language art skills, and mathematics. Students may take the exam once. There are no makeup dates.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
