College Counseling

Belen Jesuit is committed to supporting its students through the college search and admissions process. To that end, students have access to four full-time college counselors who directly assist students, and their parents, in the college selection process. Our counselors work one-on-one with students throughout the college search and admissions process to help them make college choices that fulfill their academic, spiritual, personal, and financial needs.

Freshmen are assigned a College Counselor at the beginning of their high school journey. This individual will remain with them for the duration of their high school career, allowing for College Counselors to build relationships with their students. As freshmen and sophomores, College Counselors will meet with students primarily in group settings and individually upon request.

College Counselors begin working more intensely with students in their junior year in order to prepare their SAT/ACT testing timeline and build a preliminary list of colleges.

Senior year, College Counselors work closely with students to finalize their list of schools, assist them in completing applications, editing essays, informing them of scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and more.

Workshops and information sessions are held in the evenings for parents and students. Families are strongly encouraged to attend these programs beginning freshman year.

In addition, over 200 college admission representatives attend our annual College Fair and over 150 representatives provide on-campus Information Sessions to interested juniors and seniors. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are also invited to participate in two College Tours that take place each year.

Mission Statement

Recognizing that each individual has unique needs, our mission is to provide complete support to all families and students throughout their high school career and beyond.  From initiating the college search to discerning the path that best aligns with their academic, spiritual, social, and financial needs, we guide students so that they may live out their purpose for the greater glory of God.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
