Campus Security

The safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff is a top priority at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. The Campus Security Department of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for its students, employees and visitors.  We recognize that effective campus security is achieved by establishing a professional and trusting relationship with those that we serve.

Belen Jesuit Campus Security office is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The Campus Security office may be open at other times for special events. All school security officers are experienced and trained in the security field.  

Some of the security officers’ duties include:
  • Maintain and monitor the campus security camera system
  • Operate and monitor the access-control, ID card system 
  • Issue and maintain the student and staff access ID card system
  • Regulate parking and traffic on campus
  • Provide security for special events and sporting activities
  • Provide security on campus for students, staff, and visitors
  • Respond to calls for assistance, medical emergencies, suspicious activities and unwanted persons.
  • Provide safety and security inspections of school grounds
  • Submit repair requests concerning safety issues to Campus Security when observed during patrol duties
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled fire drills, and intruder drills during the school year
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to contact Campus Security at any time with campus safety issues or concerns.

Security Awareness

Belen Jesuit Campus Security encourages all students and staff to be aware of their surroundings and immediately report any criminal activity to Campus Security and/or the Miami-Dade Police Officer on campus.
 
Students and staff are encouraged to keep their personal belongings in sight at all times.

Plant Operations

This department is made up of the security, maintenance and janitorial staff. Members of this department also oversee construction and renovation projects on campus.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
