National Junior Honor Society

The Belen Jesuit chapter of the Junior National Honor Society recognizes students in the 8th and 9th grade who excel in the areas of academics, leadership, service and character and have a desire to promote these four pillars among their peers. To qualify for membership the student must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a current 8th grade student
  • Cumulative unweighted GPA of a 4.0
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 1 Honors course the previous school year
  • No grade lower than a 2 in conduct and effort on the final report card from the prior year
  • Satisfactory completion of the required Christian Service hours from the prior school year
  • Demonstrated notable accomplishments in the area of leadership and displays exemplary character
  • Approval from faculty council for the National Junior Honor Society
To remain a member through 9th Grade, a student must:
  • Maintain a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of a 4.0
  • Maintain a grade of 1 in both conduct and effort on the final report card for the academic year
  • Complete required grade-level Christian Service hours plus an additional 10 hours of service, which involves participation in NJHS sponsored projects or events.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 1 Honors course
  • Must attend at least 3 NJHS meetings per semester
  • Maintain a disciplinary record befitting a member in an honor society, demonstrating character and leadership. 
The Junior National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes excellence in academics, personal demeanor, school leadership, and community service. The moderator is Mrs. Raquel Garcia.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
