It takes a village, support BYM

Mirna Menendez | BYM Coordinator
We are in the home stretch, the fundraising deadline for this year’s Belen Youth Missions Trip is May 12 and we need your help to get us over our $50,000 goal.
Yes, all sixty-five students that are participating are raising funds, but in order to successfully complete our mission of serving the community of La Estancita in the Dominican Republic, we need to surpass the goal.

From June 24 – July 2, our students will be joined by faculty and alumni as they embark on a mission to build the 100 ft long, 12 ft wide bridge over the Yojo River. They will be doing the heavy lifting and the tremendously hard work of actually building a bridge in just 9 days. There is no doubt that our group will complete the project because they know that 5 communities will benefit from their labor, and in true Ignatian fashion the Magis will be on display during those hot summer days in the DR.

How can you help? Support our young men by donating to their fundraising webpages, belenyouthmission.org. Purchase an item from our Campus Store labeled with the BYM logo so that proceeds benefit the program. On-sale in the store are 5 items - just in time for Mother’s Day – 3 types of necklaces, mini-cakes, and the “B” lapel pin. Or, you can purchase items from our Amazon list and help us provide the villagers in La Estancita with needed items. Simply, click here to shop online or purchase the items on your own and drop them off on campus (every theology class will accept items).

The old adage, “it takes a village” is applicable here. It will take the “village” of Belen coming together to help our students live our mantra Men for Others as they continue to prepare for the 2017 Mission Trip.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
