Pardon Our Dust: Campus Improvements Update

Ricardo Echeverria '84| Director of Plant Operations
Since the opening of the Dining Hall in August, the attention of the construction crew has been solely on the Gian Zumpano Aquatic Center.
The project has made great strides since the summer.

Updates include:
  • Concrete bleachers have been completed.
  • Concrete columns for bleachers will be completed the week of November 20.
  • Awning canopy for bleachers has been ordered.
  • Tile installation in lockers has commenced.
  • Tile installation in pool will commence the week of November 20.
  • Work on new FPL electrical service for the pool has commenced.
  • Stainless Steel pool gutter has been installed.
  • All pool plumbing pipes have been installed.

We anticipate the completion of the project will be in the beginning of 2018 and look forward to announcing the blessing and dedication of the aquatic center. The Master Plan for the school has been revised and updated and will be presented to the county before the end of 2017. Included in the Master Plan are The Our Lady of Belen Chapel and Athletic Facility.

These projects wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t for the generosity of many people. We continue to strive for greatness and need your help in achieving our goal. Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
