Over 200 students to be confirmed

Patricia A. Bustamante | Assistant Principal for the Middle School
One hundred and eighty seven eighth grade students along with twenty high school students will receive the sacrament of confirmation on February 2, 2019.

At the All Saints Day Mass on November 1, these students made their confirmation commitment before the Belen community. Our eighth grade students are being prepared by their Theology teachers and have begun to select a saint name, a sponsor, and are learning about the importance of this sacrament which will fully initiate them to the Catholic Church. High school students are being prepared through Campus Ministry's sacramental preparation program. Students will also attend a retreat and participate in different service opportunities.

Being able to journey with our students towards this important milestone in their faith formation fills us all with tremendous joy. Our confirmation candidates will be confirmed on campus by The Most Rev. Enrique Delgado, Auxiliary Bishop of Miami. We ask all members of the Belen family to keep these students in their prayers.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
