Congratulations to BelenJesuit sophomores Ignacio Felix-Padilla '22 and Andres Caballero '22 on being chosen to represent Belen at The Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Conference at Palm Beach Atlantic University in May. We recognize their current leadership efforts in the Belen Community and beyond and we are certain with new skills that they will learn at the conference, they will be able to expand their programs and increase their impacts in our community.
“Both these young men exemplify the Magis in all that they do,” said Jose E. Roca '84, Principal. “This opportunity will motivate them and continue to form them into outstanding leaders.”
For more than five decades, HOBY has inspired young people to make a difference and become catalysts for positive change in their home, school, workplace, and community. As America’s foremost youth leadership organization, HOBY has a long history of successfully motivating young people to develop into outstanding leaders.
Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
