On December 18, a signing ceremony was held at Belen Jesuit for six student-athletes. In general, over 7% of high school athletes (about 1 in 14) go on to play a varsity sport in college and less than 2% of high school athletes (1 in 54) go on to play at NCAA Division I schools.

The following six student-athletes committed to playing at the collegiate level:

  • Don Chaney Jr - University of Miami, FL *signed a national letter of intent
  • Francisco Paredes - University of Miami, FL
  • Sean Beaubien - Williams College, MA

  • Andres Garcia-Chacon -  Yale University, CT

  • Rafael Bru - Colby College, ME

  • Joseph Perez - Regis College, MA

“I am proud of these young men who, as true student-athletes, have achieved the Magis - both on the field and in the classroom. Congratulations to them as well as their families, coaches, and teachers who have supported their formation throughout their years at Belen,” said José E. Roca, Principal.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
