Major Gift Announcement: Shanley Family

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Belen Jesuit is excited to announce that the Shanley Family has pledged a $2,000,000 major gift. This donation will go toward fulfilling the goals laid out in the Strategic Plan designed to advance the vision and direction of the school. This gift matches the largest single donation made to the ‘For the Greater Glory’ Campaign.

“It isn’t every day a school can announce a gift of this magnitude,” said Fr. Willie ‘87. “I’m incredibly grateful to Ken and Andrea for entrusting us with the education and faith formation of their son Blake. They clearly understand the importance of a Jesuit education and have confidence in the plan we have set in place at Belen Jesuit for the formation of young men. We are grateful to them for their pledge and will use it to further our great vision for Belen Jesuit.”

“Belen Jesuit’s reputation and its commitment to instilling strong values and in educating the whole person led us to the school,” said Ken Shanley. “From the moment we met Fr. Willie, his passion and compassion for Belen and its students is what made us confident this is where we belong. Its impressive history of educating young men for over 165 years and in producing leaders that help shape the community guided our decision. We are proud to support Belen as it continues to be a beacon for future generations.”

The “For the Greater Glory” campaign includes our construction and modernization efforts, the Financial Assistance Program, as well as the Annual Fund for Belen which sustains the school’s commitment to quality education. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to visit our Dedication Opportunities webpage to see the various ways you can help.

Every gift received helps us fulfill the goals set forth in the Strategic Plan (Strengthening our Catholic-Jesuit Identity, Academic Excellence, Forming Well-Rounded Men, and Enhancing our Brotherhood). We plan on announcing many more leadership-level gifts in the coming months.

We continue to strive for greatness and need your help in achieving our goal. If you would like to contribute to the vision of the school, please contact Phil Fernandez ’94 at ffernandez@belenjesuit.org or call him at 305-804-7683. Click here to watch the video announcement.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
