2021 Alumni Tombola Challenge Breaks Records

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
The 2021 Alumni Tombola Challenge kicked off on December 8, 2021, and came to a close on December 31 at 11:59 p.m. In all, the alumni raised $648,675.34 for the Fund for Belen!

The friendly gift-giving competition engaged over 250 more donors than last year. Total fundraising surpassed last year’s record total by $260,761, which represents a 67% increase!

Through the generosity of hundreds of alumni, the dedicated work of our amazing alumni delegates and board members, the Alumni Office, and the Advancement staff, the challenge exceeded all expectations and shattered previous records.

“Of course, I want to give a special shout-out to the class of 1997 that finished in the top spot for total giving,” said Fr. Willie ‘87. “Another shout out to the classes of 1970 and 1973 who topped the leaderboard in terms of participation at 100% and to the class of 1987 that produced the most donors!

We are grateful to everyone who took part in this alumni challenge. Ultimately, it’s all about our school and the love we have for it. All gifts to the Fund for Belen go immediately to the school’s most pressing needs, financial assistance, and benefit our Alumni offering direct operational support to the Alumni Association as well.”

Alumni are encouraged to continue to support Belen by clicking here. In addition to providing resources for academic, technology, faculty recruitment, and retention, all gifts support the continuous operation of the Alumni Association, BConnected (belenalumni.org), and all other Alumni-related activities.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
