Stand With Us for Ukraine

Daniel Guon ‘27 & Mikel Pena ‘28
On Thursday, February 24th Russia invaded Ukraine. The people in Ukraine are now suffering and fleeing their country as a result of this military action. It is our responsibility as citizens of the world to help those suffering. Ukrainians need money to support their families and to start over in other countries. We need to stand with our brothers and sisters in this time of struggle.

As men for others, we are asking the Belen community to join us in raising money to help the Ukrainian refugees. On Monday, March 14th all students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate in a dress-down day. Students are asked to wear a solid sky blue or golden yellow t-shirt (Ukrainian flag colors) along with their uniform pants and make a suggested donation of $5. Assigned colors are by FLEX classes:
  • Odd-numbered FLEX classes (ie: 7-3, 11-5, etc): sky blue t-shirts/polo
  • Even-numbered FLEX classes (ie: 7-2, 11-4, etc): golden yellow t-shirts/polo
Donations will be collected by your second block teacher on Monday the 14th. All funds collected will be sent to JRS (Jesuit Refugee Services).

We hope you will stand with us for Ukraine and also ask that you join us in prayer and solidarity for our brothers and sisters.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
