Belen Jesuit is excited to announce that César R. Conde '91 has pledged a major gift towards fulfilling the goals outlined in the 2022 Strategic Plan. This donation is intended to advance the vision and direction of the school with an emphasis on the communications and media program.
The current Communication Arts and Multimedia Center, which houses WBLN, ECHOES Yearbook, and film classes, will be renamed the Conde Media Center, in honor of Conde’s parents Drs. Maria and Cesar Conde, during a ceremony later this year.
“As a Belen alumnus, I am extremely proud and humbled to be able to give back to my alma mater in this way,” said César Conde, Chairman, NBCUniversal News Group. “Belen’s relentless commitment to excellence and serving others makes it one of the finest educational institutions in our country. The students, led by excellent teachers, are already producing quality and award-winning media. I am honored to support their talents and abilities as they continue to soar to new heights.”
Since May 2020, César Conde has served as the Chairman of the NBCUniversal News Group. In this role, he oversees NBC News, MSNBC, and CNBC. In 2012, the Belen Alumni Association inducted him into Belen’s Sports Hall of Fame for tennis and cross country. In 2016, he was Belen’s commencement speaker, and in 2022 he was inducted into the Belen Hall of Fame inaugural class.
“Built on five pillars, the Strategic Plan is a roadmap for the future and clearly defines our goals for the next few years,” said Fr. Willie ‘87. “We are very fortunate to have César, a titan in the media industry, step forward and pledge his support to Belen Jesuit and lay the groundwork for future media professionals through the Conde Media Center. His generosity is a testament to the value of a Jesuit education and a commitment to Belen's continued growth and development.”
Every gift received helps us fulfill the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan, and we plan to announce many more leadership-level pledges in the future. We continue to strive for greatness and need your help in achieving our goal. Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
