Belen Jesuit alumnus Eric Abel Lastres from the class of 2018 will make his profession of first vows to the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) on Saturday, August 5th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Our Lady of Belen Chapel.

The presider will be Fr. Martin Lenk, S.J., Provincial of the Caribbean Province and concelebrated by Fr. Guillermo García-Tuñón, S.J., and other Jesuit priests. Following the Mass, there will be a reception in the Sarria Family Dining Hall. RSVP is required to attend the reception.

The Mass will be streamed live on our YouTube channel

Lastres, 23, was born and raised in Miami, FL. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Upon graduation, he entered the Society of Jesus and began his formation as a Jesuit in the novitiate in Santiago, Dominican Republic, on August 12, 2021.

“Being a Jesuit is living a life in total surrender, trust, and deep love for the Lord,” said Lastres. “It is a life where you constantly get to experience the adventure, beauty and profound goodness of God fulfilling your deepest and most profound dreams, most of those dreams which you never even knew you had. Every day of our lives, God professes vows to us. In professing vows, I get to respond to that unfailing love and offer the rest of my life to build His Kingdom. I am so humbled and excited for this gift, and to continue my formation as a Jesuit. I invite the Belen community to keep me in their prayers as the Lord unites us always through Our Lady.”

Lastres will continue his education at  St. Louis University in Missouri and strive to complete a Master's in Philosophy and Theology for Ministry.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
