Maury Park Dedication Ceremony

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School proudly celebrated the dedication of Maury Park on February 5, 2026, marking the official opening of its state-of-the-art baseball complex. The ceremony was led by School President Fr. Guillermo “Willie” García-Tuñón, S.J. ‘87, and welcomed more than 300 guests to campus.

Student-athletes, alumni, faculty, staff, benefactors, and members of the Belen community gathered for the celebration. The festivities included appearances by Waldo the Wolverine and Miami Marlins mascot Billy the Marlin, who greeted guests and shared a lighthearted game of catch. Albert Maury and his son, Belen alumnus Albert Maury Jr. ’16, threw out the ceremonial first pitches ahead of the varsity baseball game against Miami Springs Senior High School.

“This beautiful baseball facility rivals many university complexes and elevates the experience for our student-athletes and fans,” said Fr. Willie. “The passion and dedication of our parents and alumni made this project possible. From our main benefactors, the Maury family, to the architects, engineers, and construction team, Maury Park is a testament to what love for Belen can build. I can’t wait to watch our Wolverines take the field and soar.”

The 2025 baseball season served as a soft opening for Maury Park. Now fully operational, the complex features two state-of-the-art turf fields with dugouts and bleacher seating for 300 spectators. Highlights include the Curbelo Family Indoor Baseball Facility for year-round training, a university-style varsity locker room, the Nick Martinez ’08 Scoreboard—standing 12’6” tall and 28’3” wide and powered by 331,776 pixels for vivid animations—and the Marquez Family Middle School Baseball Field. The scope of the project is evident throughout: the press box awning alone weighs more than 40,000 pounds; 9,000 square feet of Dominican limestone were installed across the complex; and an additional 35,000 square feet of pavers complete the surrounding area.

“As we dedicate this park, our hope is simple: That this field continues to build on Belen’s rich tradition, forming future generations of young Belen boys who will become Men for Others,” said Albert R. Maury, President/CEO at Leon Medical Centers Health Plans, Inc. “Young men who will learn to lead with character, serve with humility, and learn to compete with integrity. Young men who will carry their faith beyond these fences — into their families, their careers, their communities, and into the world that needs them. But our dream as a family is something even broader than baseball. Our dream is that this park always remains a place where families come together, where friendships begin and grow. Where parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters sit in the stands and feel proud — not just of how a young man plays, but of who he is becoming.”

The dedication of Maury Park is part of a broader transformation of Belen’s athletic campus, including the newly remodeled Wolverine Plaza. This vibrant gathering space connects de la Cruz Stadium, Maury Park, Nike Hill, and Hernández Field, and features covered seating, a six-foot, 700-pound Wolverine statue, and a tribute to Belen’s state championship teams. Seamlessly linked to the renovated Café Belen, the plaza enhances student life while honoring the school’s athletic legacy and inspiring future generations.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
