(The following explanation of the Senior Banner was read by Roberto Ángel Alonso ’26 and the banner was presented by Alejandro Uno Muñoz ’26 and Guillermo Eugenio Corradi ’26 at the Baccalaureate Mass on May 3, 2026, at the Our Lady of Belen Chapel.)
As we prepared this year’s banner in Senior Peer Ministry, one central theme emerged—brotherhood forged in faith. Inspired by this year’s school theme, Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another,” we reflect on the relationships that have shaped us throughout our time at Belen. Our classmates, teachers, coaches and Belen community have challenged and strengthened us, helping us form a brotherhood rooted in faith and accountability.
The hammer and anvil on the front of our banner symbolize this process of formation. Just as iron is sharpened through contact, we too have been refined by one another. The small cross on the anvil reminds us that Christ is the foundation of this transformation and the source of the unity we share.
On the back, the sword recalls the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, who laid down his sword at the feet of Our Lady in surrender to God’s will. Etched into the sword are the words Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (AMDG), calling us to lay down our own lives in service of the Lord and to be transformed into the men we are called to be.
As we move forward, we carry with us the brotherhood that has sharpened us and the faith that sustains us, striving to do all things for the greater glory of God.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
