New Security Measures

Jose E. Roca | School Principal
Over the last few years, Belen Jesuit has taken steps to improve our on-campus security.

New gates and doors were installed at the different entrances across the campus. Extra surveillance cameras were added, and a crisis plan was finalized. A security committee was also assembled by Fr. Willie Garcia-Tuñón, S.J. in order to study ways to enhance the security of the school as part of a two-year plan. One of the newest changes is to have an off-duty police officer on campus throughout the course of the school day as a valuable resource to the community. Having this off-duty police officer is a great step towards a more secure campus especially in a society that is continuously more complex.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
