Luis Dulzaides | Director of the Ignatian Center for the Arts
As we close out 2016, the Ignatian Center for the Arts (ICA) and the Humanities Department are gearing up for the annual Belen Jesuit Christmas Concert on December 13 under the direction of Ms. Marlene Urbay.
Our annual Christmas Concert highlights the talents of over 250 students; some who are just beginning to learn to play an instrument. The culmination of the concert is hearing from our award winning Belen Jesuit Concert and Jazz Band.   What better way to celebrate the Christmas spirit than by coming together as a community and listen to some classic standards as well as see these amazingly talented musicians showcase all of their hard work from this past year? All tickets are $10 and can be purchase online, www.belenjesuit.org/rocatheater.

In 2017, the ICA will host several shows.  In January we will be hosting our first gallery exhibit of the year by showcasing talent right here in our own “backyard”.  Starting on January 11, the Saladrigas Gallery will be home to a photography exhibit by Assistant Athletic Director Victor Arrieta ’95 titled "He Shot It".  The show will feature a breathtaking exhibit with a wide range of photographs that he has taken over the last 20 years.

Next, we will turn the Roca Theater into a cinema for two nights only on February 2 and 4. The Roca Theater will be home to the South Florida premier of the film “Ignacio De Loyola,” a historical drama based on the memoirs of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order.

Finally, in March we will debut our Spring Musical, "Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" which is currently in rehearsal.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
