Welcome Back Message

Jose E. Roca | School Principal
Welcome back, students! I hope you had a restful summer vacation and are reenergized for what awaits you this school year.
I am very excited to begin this year because I know it will bring us many opportunities to learn, to grow in our faith, and to serve the Lord.

The week of August 15th was used by our faculty to prepare for their teaching ministry.  The faculty spent time meditating on our mission as Jesuit educators and planning, individually and collectively, for the new school year.  The faculty was introduced to our theme for this year, “Run to the Fire” by participating in professional development activities ranging in topic from school safety to daily lesson planning.  Each and every faculty member was exhorted to use every minute of the school day, and beyond, to help form you into faith-filled young men who are capable of tackling any challenges the world may throw at you.

As you plan for the current school year, as well your future beyond Belen, I ask that you keep your heart and mind open to God’s plan for your lives.  If you listen to His Word, you will certainly achieve much more than even you can imagine.  God’s plan for you may be to one day become a teacher, lawyer, doctor, musician, or maybe even a priest.  An alumnus from the class of 2013, Eric Couto, just entered the Jesuit novitiate answering God’s call to him.  Please keep Eric in your prayers, and pray for each other, so that you too can listen to God’s plan and always do your very best for the Greater Glory of God.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
