Student Advisor Program

The Student Advisor Program is a peer mentoring program initiated by students in an effort to promote wellness and stress prevention among the student body.
The Student Advisors will not be providing counseling, therapy, or any other form of direct service to the students. Their responsibilities will include: identifying students in need, providing educational and preventative information to their class, offering support through listening to their peers and connecting peers who possess similar interests or areas of concern with each other. The Student Advisors will be trained on how to be active listeners and in providing preventive educational programs. The Student Advisors will direct students to their school counselor for any problems or concerns and will keep the school counselor informed of student issues shared with them.  They will also contribute to the development and maintenance of the school’s “Wellness Board.” The moderator is Ms. Teresa Gutierrez

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
