Students to Raise Awareness for Breast Cancer

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Throughout the month of October, students will raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.
The Battle Like a Wolverine campaign will kick off its 5th year of fundraising for this important cause – having already raised over $30,000 since it began in 2011. The school-wide campaign includes students wearing pink ties, as well as participating in the annual 5K run/walk/jog.

Pink ties will go on-sale in the Campus Store on October 4 for $20. Registration for the Battle Like A Wolverine 5K is ongoing at www.belenjesuit.org/battlelikeawolverine. This family friendly event is open to all age levels and experience.

The 5K will take place on the Belen Jesuit campus in the de la Cruz Stadium on Saturday, October 29. The 5K will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

The net proceeds from all the above listed fundraising events and items will benefit our partner, the Baptist Health Breast Center. Together, we strive to provide mammograms for uninsured individuals and support the Baptist Health Breast Center Care Coaches.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
