Having directed a production of The Outsiders at Belen some twenty years ago, I felt it was time for a revival.

Hinton’s insightful exploration of the human condition offers the possibility to not only survive the struggles of adolescence, dysfunctional family settings and class divisions, but thrive. It is our hope that having witnessed this production, you, too, will join Johnny and: “watch a sunset,” stay a kid; “When you’re a kid everything’s new, dawn;” and dare to defy Robert Frost and, “Stay Gold.”
“Our cast has worked very hard in preparing for this great production,” said Luis Dulzaides, Director of the Ignatian Center for the Arts. “The entire community is invited to join us to watch these talented thespians bring to life this classic book and film for our students and community.”
Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
