Giving Thanks

Francisco Vazquez | Community Service & Outreach Coordinator
For the last several weeks students in every grade level have been encouraged to bring nonperishable items for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. The response by our community has been outstanding.
Words cannot express how grateful we are to everyone who participated in the Thanksgiving Food Drive.  Once again, our Belen community came through with an overwhelming amount of food and gift cards that went out to help many in need.

Over 150 boxes of food and around $1,500 dollars in gift cards to Publix, Sedanos and Winn Dixie were collected and delivered to the Marianitas Sisters and to Gesu, St. Michael and St. Dominic churches.  They were all very appreciative for the generosity of so many that came together and participated in this collection.

People for Others, that is who we are and Men for Others are who we are helping to form.  This was clearly evident this past week as we saw so many of our students offering to help organize boxes, tape them up and then as we witnessed our spectacular maintenance staff load up and deliver them.  This beautiful act of charity was done, as always...for the greater glory of God!

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
